Chamonix Ski Holidays


Chamonix is situated in the south east of France. It lies atop the northern Swiss Alps, 15 km away from the Swiss border and also 15 km away from the Italian border. The valley forms the foot of Mont – Blanc, which is the highest summit in Europe at 4810 meters. The area is surrounded by Aiguilles Rouges in the north and Blanc Mountains in the south. The region originated from a glacier attaining a maximum height of 1462 meters at Le Tour, and a central height of 1035 meters.

Chamonix is a popular choice for holidays for skiers and mountaineers. It has many alpine resorts offering great packages. There are four places that are just not worth missing. Legendary Chamonix is situated at a height of 4810 meters. It is a famous mountaineering spot comprising entirely of snow and ice. Les Houches offers a spectacular view of the Aiguilles range. It consists of Alpine meadows and deep forests. Streams run around the gentle slopes, making it a perfect family spot. Servoz is located at the foot of Fiz Mountains. The Mont Blanc standing across it forms a great picture from the town village. Vallorcine is home to the wildlife of squirrels, chamois and deer. The countryside lies next to the Swiss Border.
The skiing resorts have magnificent views. The mountainous tops can be reached through both lifts and hiking trails. The entire valley is surrounded by beautiful picturous scenes of snow – covered hills and pine forests. There are glaciers as well which take up an area of 125 square kilometers. These add further beauty to the already panoramic site.

The features of the Chamonix valley attract tourists the entire year round. The snow terrains inclining down towards the valley make it a favorite spot for skiers as well during the wintry days. The ski season starts sometime in mid December. If the snow conditions allow, the lifts are opened much sooner. The season ends in the middle of May. Most of the skiing facilities at Chamonix are located over a height of 2000 meters. The ski area is divided into three parts but they are interconnected through shuttle and train service.

The Grands Montets is one of the most famous resorts for skiers and snowboarders around the globe. There are terrains for all levels of skiers, be it beginner or advanced. The off – piste skiing here is considered to be among the most challenging sport in the world. The ‘Vallée Blanche’ is a ski spot loved by many. Skiers can also try the Courmayeur resort in Italy without paying any extra charges and can enjoy trips to other nearby areas such as Geneva in Switzerland and Aosta in Italy.
Travel organizations have many deals which offer skiing in Chamonix. The total cost varies with the package chosen. The accommodation rates also differ. Riviere Apartments rate is £266 per person which is fairly cheap in the area. Residence La Ginabelle charges £386 and Chalet Hotel Sapiniere is a bit expensive at £449 pp. Lift passes cost £160 and £220 for children / seniors and adults respectively.
