South Africa Holidays

Located on the very tip of the African continent, South Africa is arguably the most sought-after destination within this part of the world.  It is quite far from Europe and the United Kingdom: direct flights will take 14 hours or longer.  However, it is definitely worth the ride.  Not only will you have immediate access to cities such as Cape Town and Johannesburg, but the sheer variety of nature is not to be taken lightly.  This is particularly the case when referring to the northern and interior portions of the country.  From safaris and lazy days on the beach to a spontaneous night out on the town, there is very little left to the imagination when referring to the splendours of South Africa.

Natural Beauty and Urban Delights

One of the most interesting facts surrounding South Africa is that it is arguably the most developed nation within Africa.  This often tends to overshadow the sheer natural splendour which (in many cases) is only moments away.  There are numerous safari tours available and you can even choose to stay in five-star hotels found directly within the confines of massive nature reserves.  One perfect example of this observation can be see in Kruger National Park.  This is the largest park within South Africa and it also shares a border with Zimbabwe.  You will be able to catch glimpses of lions, elephants, giraffes and untold species of native birds.  Many of these animals are located only within South Africa.   Safaris are extremely popular and many of these can be booked directly from your hotel.  Still, it could be a good idea to contact the provider in advance; many are associated with seasonal availability (more on this in the final section).

No article covering South Africa would be complete without mentioning the beaches to be enjoyed here.  Home to famous locations such as Cape Horn, there are some stretches of sand which are nearly vacant during most of the year (save for the occasional surfer).  However, accessing these areas (particularly those on the western portion of the country) can be a bit difficult without a car.  There are many vehicle rental services if you hope to take a quick day trip up and down the coastline.  Let’s also keep in mind that off-road vehicles are great options for those who wish to enjoy a close-up view of the interior of the country.  The only word of advice is to keep an eye on the weather.  Conditions can change quickly although you will not have any issues for the majority of the time.

Planning a Getaway in Advance

First and foremost, be sure to check the prices associated with three major Airlines.  Keep in mind that carriers such as South Africa Airlines tend to offer at least one flight a day.  Due to the sheer distances involved, make a reservation at least 10 weeks in advance; particularly if you are travelling during a busy season.  Book hotels in the same manner, as these can fill up very quickly.  If you are interested in safaris and other types of natural excursions, perform your research and make certain that you are obtaining professional services.  This is particularly important if you hope to visit remote regions such as Kruger National Park.  All in all, preparation is the best way to make sure that you and your family experience memories that will last for a lifetime.
