There are a number of excellent beaches in the San Juan area, the most notable being Condado which is a traditional seaside resort.
If you can drag yourself away from the beach, there are plenty of interesting places to explore in the town including three historic fortresses, a number of historical buildings and a great collection of museums and galleries. When the sun goes down there are plenty of bars and clubs to unwind in.
Also known as the Pearl of the South or La Perla del Sur, the beautiful city of Ponce is the second-largest city on the island and is situated in the South. At the heart of the city is the iconic Plaza de las Delicias which is an elegant, tree-lined square with a lion fountain.
The square is also home to two of Ponce’s major landmarks Catedral Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe and the Parque de Bombas. While in Ponce be sure to check out Museo de Arte de Ponce. The museum is frequently considered the finest Caribbean Art Museum and has an impressive collection of prints, painting and sculptures.
No trip to Puerto Rico is complete without a trip to one of the island’s bioluminescent bays or phosphorescent bays in Fajardo, Mosquito Bay or La Parguera. When the sun goes down, these bays are illuminated by bioluminescent dinoflagellates.
