Family Package Holidays

Family holiday

In the current economic climate many families are struggling to be able to afford the annual family holiday; but don’t give up on having a holiday just yet, there are ways to make a family break affordable even for those on a tight budget. For those with young children things are especially financially difficult at the moment; however there are ways to create a cheap family holiday and to take advantage of some of the package deals, bargains and discounts which are available. As a general rule, short haul or UK trips are the best option for saving money on a family holiday, although there are also some fantastic bargains to be found in the new resorts of Eastern Europe and Northern Africa. Tried and tested family resorts in the Spanish Costas and Northern France are often an excellent option to reduce expenses, and travel agents are able to offer discounts such as free child places and transfers. Travelling all inclusive may also work out to be cheaper in the long run, as there are fewer expenses on transfers, food, drinks and activities – many tour operators are happy to offer substantial discounts and may even upgrade to all inclusive on packages which are booked last minute.

In order to get the best deals, it’s sometimes necessary to offer flexibility on dates for travel, accommodation, preferred airline, flight time and resorts. Airlines and tour operators often allow websites to display the cheapest flights and packages available on particular dates and customers who have the ability to offer some flexibility may be able to find better deals for cheap holidays. Whilst school holidays can often be amongst the most expensive times to travel, there are still bargains to be had even whilst the children are on a break. Being flexible with times and dates, checking for last minute deals and taking advantage of package holiday supplier’s offers of free childcare places are all good options to make holidays more affordable even for the largest family or the tightest budget.

It’s possible to get large discounts on many family holiday packages including some luxury and all inclusive deals, but amongst the cheapest are camping holidays and those in apartment complexes. There are many such resorts situated around the Costa del Sol and Costa Brava in Spain, and in combination with cheap and regular flights from the UK, this has contributed to these locations becoming amongst the most popular for cheap family getaways. Rather than approaching these hotels and apartment complexes direct, often the best deals are to be found via last minute websites, which can offer substantial discounts on package deals including cheap flights and low cost accommodation.

Short Breaks

For families who can’t afford their usual one or two week holiday; a short break, long weekend or day trip could be a good option to reduce expenses but still ensure that the family have a holiday. Many package holiday companies, aware of the time and budget constraints of many families have begun to offer shorter break options, as well as long weekends at many resorts. There are many destinations which are easily reached from the UK, and which could be well explored within a limited timeframe. The north of Spain, Ireland and France are good options for those who have only a small amount of time, or difficult budget constraints. These regions all offer many attractions and have many activities such as theme parks, amusements and museums which would amuse a family with children or teenagers. They are also accessible by ferry, meaning that families can choose to take their own car and could save money on hiring a vehicle for their stay.

Some families are choosing not to leave the UK for their main holiday; saving time and money on flights and transfers and reducing anxiety for children who may not enjoy flying. There are a number of companies which offer package deals within the UK and these options have grown increasingly diverse over recent years; with holidays in caravans, hotels, apartments, villas and on boats all now being available within Britain for a fraction of the cost of a holiday abroad.

The growing popularity of holiday sites such as Haven, Butlins and Pontins over recent years has led to some new resorts being built, and facilities in the UK parks are now favourably compared with those in some of Europe’s premier destinations. There are also a number of agents which offer luxury package deals within the UK, in particular providing villas with pools and holiday cottages which can be hired for short or long term stays. These options allow families to enjoy their annual holiday without the additional stresses and expenses of travelling abroad, such as buying and finding a passport, arranging transfers and negotiating the best deal for flights.
