Located on the southern coast of Cyprus, Larnaca is the third-largest city on the island after Limassol and Nicosia. As Larnaca straddles the inviting blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea, it has become one of the most popular tourist destinations within Cyprus. The flight time from London to Larnaca is approximately five hours. This is, of course, for non-stop journeys. A flight with a connection may take six hours or longer (depending upon the route). Thankfully, Larnaca International Airport is located within the city centre and from here, there are a variety of transportation methods. Common choices include a twenty-four hour shuttle bus service, private taxis and inter-city buses. Local routes are likewise possible.

Things to do in Larnaca

Obviously, many will frequent this city due to its pristine beaches and a rather famous shoreline that is punctuated with palm trees. As the climate here is quite warm, the coastline can be enjoyed throughout the year. However, the city of Larnaca itself will also provide visitors with a wide array of options to choose from. A well-known attraction is the Foinikoudes Promenade. This large boardwalk offers breathtaking views of the nearby waterfront and countless shops will supply a wealth of tourist gifts. The restaurant district of Larnaca is also respected; tourists can enjoy an unbeatable selection of local and foreign cuisine. Many venues here provide a variety of locally caught seafood.

Another interesting aspect of Larnaca is its rich architectural history. As the region has been consistently populated for more than three thousand years, there are a number of ancient sites to enjoy. A handful of the most visited are the Church of Saint Lazarus, the Kamares Aqueduct, the Catacomb of Phaneromeni Church and the Fort of Larnaca. Additionally, several statues here serve as a testament to its unique historic roots. Two well-known examples are a bust of a personality known as “Kimon the Athenian” and another of Zeno (the founder of Stoicism).

As Larnaca is a relatively small city, the majority of the main hotels are located within a convenient proximity to the major tourist attractions.
