Bourgas Flights

Bourgas, which is sometimes spelt Burgas, is the capital of Bulgaria’s Bourgas Province and is situated along the coast of the Black Sea. For many, Bourgas serves little more than a stopping point en route to some of Bulgaria’s more appealing locations. However, Bourgas is a great destination in its own right and can serve as a base for those visiting other Black Coast resorts. While the busy port city of Bourgas may seem very industrial at first, there is a well-preserved old town to be explored and a number of natural attractions.

The best time to visit Bourgas is during the summer as this is when the city experiences it best weather and many of the tourist attractions are closed during the winter.

Flight Information

Bourgas is served by Bourgas Airport which is conveniently located 10 kilometres away from the city centre. Usually, a flight from London to Bourgas will take around three hours and there are more than ten flights a week. On average, a flight from London to Bourgas will cost you around £150.

What to Do in Bourgas

One of Bourgas’s major attractions is its beach. While it is by no means one of the best beaches in Bulgaria, it is still great for swimming or an afternoon stroll. The strong winds make it a great place for kitesurfing and windsurfing.

Accessible via steps from the beach is the Sea Garden maritime park which is one of the most popular attractions in Bourgas. The park is Bourgas’s pride and joy and consists of a number of beautifully manicured gardens that are decorated with fountains, sculptures and busts of important Bulgarian figures such as Alexander Pushkin. There are number festivals held in these gardens throughout the year, one of the most notable being the Spirit of Burgas. This is a music festival which is held every summer and features international artists as well as popular Bulgarian musicians.

In the town centre there are number of important museums that are well worth a visit, such as the Nature and Science Museum, the Archaeological Museum and the Ethnographic Museum. If you are only able to visit one museum, the best one to visit is the Nature and Science Museum which explores the natural history of Bulgaria with a focus on the Black Sea coast.

Although Bourgas is not one of the main tourist destinations in Bulgaria, there is a good selection of hotels available. Most of the hotels in Bourgas fall into the midrange category.

If you are looking for something special, there are a number of boutique and luxury hotels in the city. One of the most luxurious hotels in the city is the 5-star Grand Primoretz which is situated on the beach and has excellent premium facilities including a spa.

Unlike other cities in Bulgaria, there is only one hostel in Bourgas, the aptly named Burgas Hostel. However, private rooms and guesthouses offer cheap accommodation. You will find a number of elderly people advertising vacant private room rentals at the train station.
