City Breaks in Berlin

Berlin is the perfect destination for a European city break. As a major cultural capital and home to some of the best nightlife in Europe, there is plenty to do in Berlin both day and night. Summer is definitely the best season to visit Berlin as it means that you can take advantage of all of the city’s outdoor attractions and summer events.

With plenty of five-star hotels equipped with spas, Michelin-starred restaurant and opulent interiors, Berlin is a great destination for those looking for an indulgent city break. In addition, a luxury holiday is considerably more affordable in Berlin than in other major European cities such as London, Paris and Rome.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a cheap break, you will not be disappointed. Pensions are similar to bed and breakfasts and are the most affordable type of accommodation in Berlin. These offer basic facilities and most include a breakfast of bread, meats, conserves and cheese. Pensions tend to clustered in the west of Berlin in districts such as Wilmersdorf and Charlottenburg.

Sightseeing

As a major European center, Berlin has a number of important cultural and historic landmarks to visit. Two of the most iconic buildings in Berlin are the Reichstag and the Berliner Dom. After admiring the impressive exterior of Berlin’s cathedral, be sure explore its opulent interior and climb to the top of the dome.

Head to Bernauer Strasse to see some of the remaining pieces of the Berlin Wall, the Cold War relic which divided the capital in two. For those who are particularly interested in the history of the wall there is a well-organized visitor center nearby.

Shopping

Berlin is an excellent destination for shopping with a range of shops, markets and malls offering a range of goods. There are a number of great shopping streets in West Berlin such as Kurfürstendamm (also called Ku’Damm) and Tauentzienstrasse.

As well as shops, there are a number of flea markets in Berlin where you can pick an all manner of goods such as antiques, souvenirs and clothes.

Nightlife

When the sun goes down, there is still plenty to see and do in Berlin. If you love classical music, be sure to check out the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. The orchestra is one of the best in Europe and the venue is simply stunning. Berlin is a great city for those who love live music, from local bands to international artists on world tours, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

There are plenty of bars, pubs and clubs in Berlin which cater for a variety of tastes. One if the most iconic clubs in Berlin is Berghain which is famed for its hedonistic atmosphere and extended opening hours.
